The popular streaming platform, Netflix, is currently working on developing a video game that takes place in the world Squid Game.
Mike Verdu, the head of gaming at Netflix, recently disclosed that the streaming giant is currently working on over 10 games internally. Their aim is to offer subscribers a whopping 86 games to enjoy by the conclusion of this year.
More video games coming to Netflix
Netflix is not only adding popular games like Hades and Sonic Mania Plus to its platform, but it is also venturing into game development. The streaming service has announced its intention to create a game based on the Squid Game universe. Players will have the opportunity to compete against each other in various games inspired by the widely acclaimed series.
Right now, Netflix is remaining pretty coy about the details, but did reveal that the Squid Game game will see “players […] compete with friends in games they’ll recognise from the series”.
The details regarding the studio in charge of developing the game and its release date are still unknown. However, the popularity of the live-action reality series, Squid Game: The Challenge, has undoubtedly created a strong demand for more content related to Squid Game.
Last year, Netflix established its own production studios in Helsinki and California. Additionally, they obtained ownership of four other studios, which include Night School Studio, the developer of Oxenfree, and Spry Fox, the developer of Cozy Grove.
